Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games will take place in
Singapore from August 14th to August 26th,
2010. It is the inaugural event of the Youth Olympic Games, a major
sports and cultural festival to be celebrated in the tradition of
the Olympic Games. The Games will attract 3,600 athletes between 14
and 18 years of age from 204 National Olympic Committees competing
in 201 events in 26 sports.
Mascots: Lyo and Merly. Lyo symbolizes Lion City;
fire; "Blazing the Trail" (tagline of the Singapore 2010 bid) and
Merly symbolizes Merlion; water.

Day 1 (August
14): First Youth Olympic Games officially under way
in Singapore- The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games
officially got under way with a spectacular Opening Ceremony at the
Marina Bay Floating Stadium.

The
Olympic cauldron was lit by Singaporean sailor Darren Choy,
signaling the commencement of the inaugural Youth Olympic
Games.

receives its first medal at the Youth Olympics-
Taekwondo exponent Daryl Tan grabs a bronze medal for the host
nation Singapore.

medals including 202 gold medals, 200 silver medals, and 221 bronze
medals.

medals, and 5 bronze medals.

ceremony - As the 13-day sporting party drew to a close,
IOC President said the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games had
vastly exceeded his highest expectations and the media coverage had
surpassed his expectations too. About 45 thousand articles were
written by 12 hundred journalists, and the Youth Olympic Games was
broadcasted in 166 countries. In addition, a five-billion-strong
audience watched the Youth Olympic Games’ You Tube clips while four
million people visited its Face book page. Another pleasing
statistic is that of the 204 National Olympic Committees that were
represented at the Youth Olympic Games, 98 will return with at
least one medal. At the closing ceremony of the first edition of
Youth Olympics at the Marina Bay Floating Stadium on August
26th, 2010, IOC President handed the symbolic Olympic
Flag to the mayor of Nanjing, the 2014 host city. In one simple
gesture, the honor and responsibility of hosting the next Youth
Olympic Games was entrusted to China.
